JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the VP of Payroll Operations North America.  The position will be responsible for Managing the Sales and Use tax operation for 4 USA based and 2 Canada based companies utilizing the Oracle Fusion Cloud and the Vertex tax platforms.  Managing a staff of 4 Sales Tax Accountants/Auditors.  The position will manage the preparation of sales and use tax returns for all applicable states within the US and multiple provinces within Canada. The position will also be responsible for managing Sales tax audits for all books of business.  As well as entering and maintaining all tax exemptions within Vertex.

  1. Sales and Use Tax lead role in conversion from PeopleSoft to Oracle cloud
  2. Understand and maintain the Vertex tax application used for tax rates. Including exemption management.
  3. Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and tax refund forms as required by state and province regulations.
  4. Coordinate sales tax audits for all books of business and assist other audit team members.
  5. Prepare registrations with taxing authorities for new sales and use filings, as needed,
  6. Advise management regarding effects of business activities on taxes and on strategies for minimizing tax liability.
  7. Ensures that the organization complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting, and other taxing authority required deadlines
  8. Organizes and maintains tax records and conducts tax studies and special projects
  9. Research and resolve tax issues for multiple states and provinces.
  10. Other duties assigned as needed

Job Requirements


Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, and/or 6-8 years related experience in sales tax filings, with 4-6 years of manager experience.

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing):

  • Experience preparing sales and use returns for an employee base over 10,000 in multiple states. Canadian experience a plus.
  • Computer experience is necessary in Excel, Word, and prior Accounting software.
  • Oracle Cloud experience is necessary
  • Vertex experience a plus.
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills.
  • Skill in clear and concise oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work multiple project assignments responsibly.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
