Job Description

The Health and Safety Advisor will provide expert advice on Occupational Health and Safety and Worker’s Compensation Benefits. He or she will be responsible for participating in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the various health and safety prevention activities within our sites. The successful candidate will collaborate in the development and dissemination of security standards and ensure their application. He or she will also ensure the development and implementation of the tools necessary to maintain health and safety at work. Participation in various Human Resources projects will also be required. 

Roles and Responsibilities: 
• Act as a resource person for all requests relating to prevention in the workplace and communicate good safety practices; 
• Co-Chair of OH/S committee and participation to policy committee; 
• Participation in workplace inspections and associated follow up regarding non-compliance with stakeholders; 
• Coach supervisor and management on H&S matters (not sure is the right word!); 
• Perform risk assessment and implement risk prevention program throughout the region; 
• Provide health and safety training; 
• Main point of contact for OH/S issues across the region including right to refuse situations, accident analysis and investigation and analysing-resolving employee complaint; 
• Completion of various OH/S spreadsheets and metrics; and 
• Promotion of a safety culture 

• University Degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations;
• Three to five (3-5) years of pertinent experience in a unionized environment with a heavy emphasis on Occupational Health and Safety; 
• Familiar with and can apply applicable Federal legislation (CLC part II and COHSR); 
• Dynamic, enthusiastic, and professional; 
• Comfortable working under pressure, as well as multi-tasking. 
• Strong communication skills with a tactful approach to conflict resolution; 
• Client oriented, and comfortable in an advisory role. 
• Easily creates interpersonal relationships; 
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities; 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; 
• Demonstrated professional maturity and ability to handle confidential information; 
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; 
• Strong sense of urgency to complete tasks; 
• Be willing to undergo extensive security and reference checks; 
• Bilingualism an asset; 
• Must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status.
